Budget 2026
Budget 2026 is about building a stronger, more independent and more affordable Canada.
Canada has the lowest net debt-to-GDP ratio in the G7, giving us the fiscal strength to make generational investments that support Canadians, create good-paying jobs and grow our economy.
Our government is investing in Canadian workers, industries and communities to strengthen our sovereignty and build a more competitive economy.
Key investments include:
$50 billion through the National Electricity Strategy to expand clean, reliable and affordable Canadian electricity.
$6.5 billion through Canada's Nuclear Strategy to strengthen our nuclear industry, research and domestic supply chains.
$45 billion to build more homes, expand affordable housing and address homelessness.
$9 billion through the Automotive Strategy to support Canadian manufacturing, workers and electric vehicle production.
$6.6 billion to diversify trade, expand infrastructure and open new markets for Canadian businesses.
$4 billion to support Canadian arts, culture, museums, heritage institutions and creative industries.
$3.2 billion through the National Food Security Strategy to strengthen Canadian food production and supply chains.
$2 billion to retrofit one million homes, lower energy bills and reduce emissions.
$587 million to support more than 55,000 additional electric vehicle chargers across Canada.
$400 million to help Canadian industries and manufacturers adopt energy-efficient technologies and reduce emissions.
Budget 2026 also strengthens affordability measures, including enhanced grocery benefits, support for caregivers and workers, and investments to reduce housing costs.
For Hamilton, these investments mean new opportunities for our steelworkers, skilled trades, manufacturers, researchers, artists and local businesses. Investments in housing, electricity, transportation, shipbuilding and defence will create new demand for Canadian steel and strengthen domestic supply chains.
By leveraging Canada's strong fiscal position, we are making life more affordable for Canadians today while investing in the industries, infrastructure and opportunities that will drive long-term economic growth.
Our future will be built in Canada, by Canadian workers, with Canadian resources and Canadian innovation.
